Lemonade is the Beyoncé album released in 2016 with a lemonade-themed title.
Released on April 23, 2016, Lemonade is both a studio album and a visual album. Its music moves through styles including R&B, rock, country, blues, and hip-hop, while its visual film uses poetry and imagery to connect the songs into a broader narrative.
The album includes “Formation,” “Sorry,” “Hold Up,” and “Daddy Lessons.” It received widespread critical acclaim and was nominated for Album of the Year at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards.
The title also connects to a passage often associated with writer and poet Warsan Shire, whose work appears in the project. Lemonade is sometimes confused with Beyoncé’s later Renaissance trilogy, but Renaissance was released six years afterward.
