Lemonade is the Beyoncé album built around a visual story connected to personal experiences and Black Southern culture.
Released in 2016, Lemonade began as a one-hour film broadcast on HBO and accompanying music released as an album. Its songs and imagery move through themes commonly described as intuition, denial, anger, forgiveness, hope, and redemption.
The project draws on multiple musical traditions, including rhythm and blues, rock, country, blues, reggae, and hip-hop. Its visual language also references Black American history, contemporary community life, and the American South.
Lemonade became Beyoncé’s sixth consecutive number-one album on the Billboard 200. It is sometimes confused with the self-titled 2013 visual album, but Lemonade has a more explicitly narrative film structure and was released three years later.
