The 2011 Beyoncé album 4 includes the single “Love on Top.”
“Love on Top” was written by Beyoncé, Terius Nash, Shea Taylor, and Beyoncé’s production collaborators. The song is known for its bright, retro-R&B sound and a sequence of upward key changes near the end, which intensifies the vocal finale.
The album 4 was released on June 24, 2011, and marked a shift toward classic R&B, soul, funk, and pop influences. Other tracks included “Run the World (Girls),” “Best Thing I Never Had,” and “Countdown.” The title refers to Beyoncé’s fourth solo studio album.
“Love on Top” became especially prominent after Beyoncé performed it at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. The performance ended with her revealing her pregnancy, creating one of the ceremony’s most remembered moments. The album title is simply the numeral 4, not the word “Four.”
