Space Beth makes her first official appearance in “Star Mort Rickturn of the Jerri.”
The character’s origin begins in the season-four episode “The ABC’s of Beth,” when Beth asks Rick to decide whether she should remain with her family or leave to pursue an adventurous life. Rick creates a clone, but the episode does not reveal which Beth is the original. One Beth then leaves Earth and becomes a spacefaring resistance leader.
“Star Mort Rickturn of the Jerri,” the season-four finale, is the first episode to identify and present that off-world version as Space Beth. She returns to Earth while being pursued by the New and Improved Galactic Federation, forcing Rick and the family to confront the cloning mystery.
A common mix-up is confusing Space Beth with Clone Beth. The episode confirms that one Beth is a clone, but Rick has erased his own knowledge of which one, so Space Beth’s exact biological status remains deliberately unresolved.
