Which Belfast-born author wrote The Chronicles of Narnia?
Answer
C.S. Lewis
Answer
C.S. Lewis
C.S. Lewis wrote The Chronicles of Narnia, the seven-book fantasy series set partly in the magical land of Narnia. The books combine talking animals, mythical creatures, adventure, and Christian symbolism.
Lewis was born in Belfast and spent much of his professional life in Oxford and Cambridge. His academic specialties included medieval and Renaissance literature, subjects that influenced the atmosphere and imagery of his fiction.
The Narnia books are often discussed as a single story, although their internal chronology differs from their publication order. The series includes The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Last Battle.
Lewis also wrote adult fiction and nonfiction, including The Space Trilogy, Mere Christianity, and The Problem of Pain. His friendship with J.R.R. Tolkien is another frequent source of biographical interest.
