Armani entered a licensing agreement with L’Oréal in 1980 covering fragrances, cosmetics and beauty products. The partnership made Armani’s fashion identity available in the beauty market while leaving the luxury house focused on its broader design and branding world.

The first women’s Armani fragrance launched in 1982, followed by a men’s fragrance in 1984. Signature names that became associated with the line include Acqua di Giò, Armani Code and Sì. L’Oréal handles the beauty business under licence; this does not mean that L’Oréal owns the entire Giorgio Armani fashion house.
