Which Barcelona market is officially known as the Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria?

The story behind the answer

Barcelona’s famous market officially known as the Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria is La Boqueria.

The market stands on La Rambla and developed from open-air trading associated with the area. Its permanent iron structure was inaugurated in the nineteenth century, giving food sellers a dedicated covered marketplace in the expanding city.

La Boqueria is known for produce, meat, fish, sweets, and prepared foods. Its location attracts residents, restaurant buyers, and visitors, linking neighborhood commerce with Barcelona’s wider food economy.

The market is often called simply La Boqueria, but that nickname refers to the same municipal market. It should not be confused with Santa Caterina Market or Sant Antoni Market, two other important Barcelona food markets.
