Weezer’s 1994 music video for “Buddy Holly” used footage from the sitcom Happy Days.
Directed by Spike Jonze, the video digitally inserts Weezer into Arnold’s Drive-In, the diner featured in Happy Days. The band appears to perform “Buddy Holly” alongside the sitcom’s characters, creating the illusion that the song belongs inside the television show’s 1950s setting. The editing was a notable example of combining modern performance footage with archival television material.
The video helped introduce Weezer to a broad MTV audience and won several honors at the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards. It is often remembered for its playful technology and nostalgic presentation rather than for a conventional storyline. The song itself appears on Weezer’s self-titled debut album, commonly called the Blue Album.
