Hot Fuss was released on 7 June 2004 through Island Records. It was the first studio album by the Las Vegas band, whose lineup at the time included vocalist and keyboardist Brandon Flowers, guitarist Dave Keuning, bassist Mark Stoermer and drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr.

The album produced several major singles, including “Somebody Told Me,” “Mr. Brightside,” “All These Things That I’ve Done” and “Smile Like You Mean It.” Its combination of new-wave keyboards, guitar rock and polished pop helped The Killers reach an international audience. “Mr. Brightside” is especially associated with the record, but it was not the album’s first single in every market. The Killers’ later albums include Sam’s Town, Day & Age and Battle Born.
