Which band released the 1987 album Sister?
Answer
Sonic Youth
Answer
Sonic Youth
Sonic Youth released the 1987 album Sister.
SST Records issued Sister on 1 June 1987. It was Sonic Youth’s fourth studio album and followed EVOL, the group’s 1986 release. The record includes “Schizophrenia,” “Stereo Sanctity,” and “White Kross,” combining alternative rock with the band’s unusual guitar tunings, feedback, and prepared-instrument techniques.
The album’s title refers to Michael Jackson, whose birth name is Michael Joseph Jackson; the connection is indirect and has sometimes led listeners to overinterpret the reference. Sonic Youth’s lineup at the time included Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon, Lee Ranaldo, and drummer Steve Shelley. Sister helped establish the band’s reputation in the American underground before its move to a larger label and greater mainstream visibility later in the decade.
