Which band performed 'Pinball Wizard' at Woodstock?
Answer
The Who
Answer
The Who
The Who performed "Pinball Wizard" at Woodstock. The English rock band played the song as part of a largely live presentation of Tommy, their groundbreaking 1969 rock opera.
The Who took the stage in the early morning of August 17, after festival delays pushed their appearance far beyond the originally expected time. Their set included much of Tommy, moving through songs that told the story of Tommy Walker, a boy who becomes an extraordinary pinball player despite being deaf, blind, and unable to speak.
"Pinball Wizard" was written by guitarist Pete Townshend and released as a single in March 1969, shortly before Woodstock. It became one of the band's signature concert songs. At Woodstock, an interruption followed the performance when activist Abbie Hoffman climbed onto the stage to protest John Sinclair's imprisonment; Townshend forced him off.
Elton John's famous 1975 film version is a common source of confusion, but the Woodstock performance was by The Who.
