Tatra is the automaker whose emblem features a stylized winged arrow and the word Tatra.
Tatra is a Czech manufacturer with roots in the Nesselsdorfer Wagenbau company. It produced its first automobile in 1897, making it one of the world’s oldest continuously operating vehicle manufacturers. The company took the Tatra name in 1920 after the Tatra Mountains.
Its automotive history includes innovative rear-engined, air-cooled passenger cars designed under Hans Ledwinka. Tatra also became an important producer of heavy trucks, many of which used distinctive backbone-chassis engineering and strong off-road capability.
The winged-arrow appearance can lead to confusion with Škoda, another Czech brand whose emblem also uses a winged arrow. The wording on the badge resolves the distinction: the emblem described here identifies Tatra.
