Which automaker introduced the i-MiEV, one of the first mass-market highway-capable electric cars?

The story behind the answer

Mitsubishi Motors introduced the i-MiEV, one of the first mass-market highway-capable electric cars.

The Mitsubishi i-MiEV was launched in Japan in 2009 and became available in international markets from 2010. It was a compact five-door hatchback powered entirely by electricity, with a lithium-ion battery mounted beneath the floor. Its small size and relatively modest range suited urban driving.

The model helped move battery-electric cars from limited fleet experiments into ordinary consumer markets. Mitsubishi also supplied closely related versions to Peugeot and Citroën, sold as the Peugeot iOn and Citroën C-Zero in Europe.

The i-MiEV is sometimes confused with the Nissan Leaf because both appeared around the same period. The Leaf was larger and sold in much greater numbers, while the i-MiEV was notable for its compact city-car format and early international availability.
