Which author created the characters on which The Devil Wears Prada 2 is based?

The story behind the answer

Lauren Weisberger created the characters on which The Devil Wears Prada 2 is based.

Weisberger introduced Miranda Priestly, Andrea “Andy” Sachs, Emily Charlton and the other central characters in her 2003 novel The Devil Wears Prada. The book is a roman à clef influenced by Weisberger’s experience working as an assistant at Vogue, although its characters and plot are fictionalized.

The original novel became a bestseller and was adapted into the 2006 film starring Meryl Streep as Miranda and Anne Hathaway as Andy. The film changed several details from the book, including aspects of the characters, setting and storyline, but retained the central fashion-world conflict.

A common mix-up is crediting the film’s screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna, with creating the characters. McKenna wrote the screenplay for the films, while Weisberger originated the literary characters. Weisberger later wrote Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns in 2013 and When Life Gives You Lululemons in 2018.
