Melbourne defeated the North Queensland Cowboys 34–6 in the 2017 NRL Grand Final at Stadium Australia in Sydney. The result gave the Storm their third premiership, following earlier titles in 1999 and 2007.

Cameron Smith captained Melbourne, while Billy Slater was awarded the Clive Churchill Medal as the grand final’s best player. The Storm controlled the match after halftime and became the first team to win three NRL titles under coach Craig Bellamy.

The Cowboys had won the premiership two years earlier, in 2015, so they are a common wrong answer when recalling recent NRL champions. The 2017 title was Melbourne’s first grand-final victory since its 2009 premiership was stripped from the official record.
