Which Australian club won the 1987 World Club Challenge against Wigan?

The story behind the answer

Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles won the 1987 World Club Challenge by defeating Wigan 8–2.

The match was played at Central Park in Wigan on 7 October 1987. It brought together the champions of Australia’s Winfield Cup and England’s Rugby Football League Championship, serving as an early club-level contest between the two major rugby league countries.

Manly-Warringah were the Australian champions, while Wigan were the English champions. The low score reflected a tightly contested match in difficult conditions rather than an attacking exhibition.

The World Club Challenge later became a regular fixture between the Australian National Rugby League and European Super League champions. The 1987 match is generally recognised as the first official World Club Challenge.
