Which Audi model is a mid-size executive car?

The Audi A6 is a mid-size executive car.

Audi introduced the A6 nameplate in 1994 as the successor to the Audi 100. Its internal “C” numbering continues that lineage: the first A6 was the C4, followed by the C5, C6, C7, C8 and C9 generations. The model is positioned above the compact executive A4 and below larger Audi luxury models such as the A8.

The A6 has traditionally been sold as a four-door saloon or sedan and as an estate, which Audi calls the Avant. Some generations also spawned performance-oriented S6 and RS6 versions, as well as the raised A6 allroad estate. The related A7 uses much of the A6’s engineering but has a liftback body and a separate model identity.

A common mix-up is confusing “mid-size” with Audi’s naming sequence. In European classification, the A6 is generally an executive or E-segment car; “mid-size” is the comparable description used in some other markets. The A5 is a smaller coupé-oriented model, while the A8 is Audi’s full-size luxury sedan.
