The third-generation Audi TT debuted in 2014 with Audi’s first virtual cockpit.

Audi unveiled the third-generation TT at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2014. Its most distinctive technology was the Audi virtual cockpit, a fully digital instrument cluster that placed navigation, media and driving information directly in front of the driver.

The system used a 12.3-inch TFT display instead of conventional analogue gauges and a separate central MMI screen. Drivers could change the presentation using the multifunction steering wheel, MMI touch controls or voice commands. This driver-focused layout became one of the TT’s defining interior innovations.

The 2014 TT was the third generation of a sports car that began with the original production model in 1998. The second generation arrived in 2006, while the third generation ran from 2014 to 2023. The Audi R8, A4 and A3 later offered related digital-display technology, but they were not the model that introduced the virtual cockpit in production form.
