Which association awards the Turing Award?

The Association for Computing Machinery awards the Turing Award.

Formally called the ACM A.M. Turing Award, the prize is presented by the Association for Computing Machinery, usually abbreviated ACM. It recognizes contributions of lasting and major technical importance to computer science and is named after Alan Turing, whose work helped establish the foundations of theoretical computing.

The award was first presented in 1966. It is widely regarded as one of the highest honors in computer science and is often nicknamed the “Nobel Prize of Computing,” although it is not administered by the Nobel Foundation and is a separate award. Laureates have included pioneers in algorithms, programming languages, operating systems, artificial intelligence, databases, networking and cryptography.

IEEE is a common distractor because it is another major professional organization that gives prestigious technology awards, including the IEEE Medal of Honor. The American Mathematical Society likewise honors mathematicians, while the British Computer Society is the United Kingdom’s professional body for computing. None of those organizations administers the Turing Award.
