Which Assassin's Creed protagonist is a Florentine nobleman named Ezio Auditore?

The story behind the answer

Ezio Auditore is the Florentine nobleman who becomes the central protagonist of Assassin's Creed II.

Ezio begins the game as a young Florentine living in Renaissance Italy. After his family is destroyed by a political conspiracy, he is drawn into the Assassin Brotherhood and pursues those responsible. His story spans several decades and takes him through locations including Florence, Venice, and Rome.

Ezio is the protagonist of Assassin's Creed II, Brotherhood, and Revelations, making him the series' most prominent recurring historical hero. He is sometimes mistakenly described as the protagonist of the original game, but that role belongs to Altaïr. Ezio's later life is explored in the animated short film Assassin's Creed: Embers, which was released alongside Revelations in 2011.
