Which Assassin’s Creed game was the first to feature playable naval warfare?
Answer
Assassin’s Creed III
Answer
Assassin’s Creed III
Assassin’s Creed III was the first Assassin’s Creed game to feature playable naval warfare. Released in 2012, it introduced missions in which Connor commands the ship Aquila against enemy vessels.
The naval sections take place in the Atlantic Ocean and use wind direction, broadside cannons, swivel guns, and ramming attacks. These missions became a major attraction of the game and established a naval system that later expanded substantially.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag built on this foundation by making sailing and ship combat central to its open world. In Black Flag, Edward Kenway spends much more time at sea aboard the Jackdaw.
Earlier games included water travel and naval imagery, but they did not offer the same dedicated, player-controlled ship battles. That distinction makes Assassin’s Creed III the correct first entry for playable naval warfare.
