Which Assassin's Creed game was the first in the series developed primarily by Ubisoft Montreal?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed was the first game in the series developed primarily by Ubisoft Montreal.

The original game launched in 2007 after Ubisoft Montreal developed it for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with additional versions following for Windows and other platforms. It introduced the franchise's core conflict between Assassins and Templars, as well as the Animus framework.

The game follows Desmond Miles in the modern day while he experiences the memories of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, an Assassin active during the Third Crusade. Its major historical cities include Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus.

Later entries were made through broader collaboration among Ubisoft studios. Ubisoft Montreal also led important subsequent projects, including Assassin's Creed II and Origins, but the 2007 title remains the franchise's first released game.
