Which Assassin's Creed game stars Edward Kenway as its main historical protagonist?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag stars Edward Kenway as its main historical protagonist.

Edward Kenway is a Welsh privateer who becomes involved with both the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order during the Golden Age of Piracy. The game is set primarily in the Caribbean in the early eighteenth century, where Edward sails between islands, ports, and naval battlefields.

Edward is the grandfather of Ratonhnhaké:ton, also known as Connor, the protagonist of Assassin's Creed III. He is also the father of Haytham Kenway, who appears prominently in that same game. This family connection makes Black Flag part of a broader multigenerational storyline within the franchise.

Black Flag is especially known for its ship-based exploration and naval combat. Players command Edward's ship, the Jackdaw, while pursuing treasure, contracts, and story missions. Although Edward begins as a self-interested pirate, the narrative follows his gradual understanding of the Assassins' ideals and the costs of his earlier ambitions.
