Which Assassin's Creed game is set mainly in Rome and focuses on Ezio's campaign there?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is the game set mainly in Rome and focused on Ezio's campaign there. It continues the story of Ezio Auditore after Assassin's Creed II and places much of its action in Renaissance Rome.

The game centers on Ezio's effort to weaken the Borgia family's influence and rebuild the Assassin Brotherhood. Players can recruit and train Assassins, then call on them during missions, an expanded system that gives the title its name.

Brotherhood also introduced a competitive multiplayer mode to the main series. Its modern-day story continues to follow Desmond Miles and the other characters connected to the Animus.

A frequent mix-up is placing Ezio's Roman campaign in Assassin's Creed II. That earlier game visits several Italian cities, while Brotherhood makes Rome the dominant setting and continues the conflict with the Borgia leadership.
