Which Assassin's Creed game is set mainly in Rome and centers on Ezio's fight against the Borgia?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood is set mainly in Rome and centers on Ezio's fight against the Borgia.

The game continues Ezio Auditore's story after Assassin's Creed II. Its main conflict pits the Assassins against Cesare Borgia and his allies, who control much of Rome through military force and political power. Ezio works to weaken that control district by district.

Brotherhood expanded the series with recruitable Assassin apprentices. Players could train recruits, send them on missions, and call them into combat, making the Brotherhood itself part of the gameplay. The game also introduced a major multiplayer mode.

Rome is not the only setting: the narrative includes Monteriggioni and other areas. The important distinction is that Rome is the dominant open-world city, whereas Assassin's Creed II uses several large Italian locations.
