Which Assassin's Creed game is set mainly in Renaissance Rome?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood is set mainly in Renaissance Rome. The game continues Ezio Auditore's story after Assassin's Creed II and focuses on his campaign against the Borgia family and their allies.

Rome is presented as a large open city under the control of Cesare Borgia, the son of Pope Alexander VI. Ezio works to rebuild the local Assassin Brotherhood, liberate districts, and weaken Borgia power through missions, alliances, and targeted attacks.

Brotherhood introduced a recruitment system that lets Ezio train new Assassins and call them into missions. It also added multiplayer, allowing players to control Templar agents in competitive modes separate from the single-player story.

The game is often confused with Assassin's Creed II because both center on Ezio and Italian Renaissance history. Assassin's Creed II travels across several Italian locations, whereas Brotherhood places much more of its campaign in Rome. Revelations later moves Ezio's story primarily to Constantinople.
