Which Assassin's Creed game is set during the Golden Age of Piracy and stars Edward Kenway?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is the Assassin's Creed game set during the Golden Age of Piracy and starring Edward Kenway.

Ubisoft Montreal developed Black Flag, which was released in 2013. Its story follows Welsh privateer Edward Kenway, who becomes involved with both the Assassins and the Templars while sailing through the Caribbean in the early eighteenth century. The open world includes islands and ports associated with Nassau, Havana, and Kingston.

Edward is the grandfather of Connor Kenway, the protagonist of Assassin's Creed III, and the father of Haytham Kenway. That family connection can cause confusion because all three characters belong to the same broader Kenway storyline. Black Flag is especially known for ship-to-ship combat, naval exploration, sea shanties, and its fictionalized versions of historical pirates including Blackbeard, Anne Bonny, and Calico Jack.
