Which Assassin's Creed game follows pirate Edward Kenway during the Golden Age of Piracy?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag follows pirate Edward Kenway during the Golden Age of Piracy.

Released in 2013, Black Flag is set primarily in the Caribbean during the early 18th century. Edward Kenway is a Welsh privateer who becomes involved with both the Assassins and Templars while pursuing wealth and reputation. He is also the grandfather of Ratonhnhaké:ton, the protagonist of Assassin's Creed III, and the father of Haytham Kenway.

The game combines traditional stealth and parkour with extensive ship exploration. Edward commands the Jackdaw, which can be upgraded and used for naval combat, boarding, hunting, and travel between islands. Major locations include Havana, Kingston, and Nassau.

Assassin's Creed III introduced important naval missions before Black Flag, but Black Flag made Caribbean piracy and ship gameplay the center of its design. That distinction is why the two games are often compared.
