Which Assassin's Creed game follows Ezio Auditore's campaign to liberate Rome from Borgia rule?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood follows Ezio Auditore's campaign to liberate Rome from Borgia rule.

Released in 2010, Brotherhood continues Ezio's story after Assassin's Creed II. Its main historical setting is Rome in the early 16th century, where Cesare Borgia and his father, Pope Alexander VI, hold major political and military power.

The game expands the series with an Assassin Brotherhood recruitment system. Ezio can enlist citizens, train them, and call them into missions. It also introduces a substantial multiplayer mode, a feature that helped distinguish Brotherhood from the primarily single-player earlier games.

A common mix-up is confusing Brotherhood with Revelations. Revelations is also centered on Ezio, but it mainly takes place in Constantinople and concludes his personal story. Brotherhood is the Rome-focused chapter.
