Which Assassin's Creed game begins Ezio Auditore's story in Renaissance Italy?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed II begins Ezio Auditore's story in Renaissance Italy.

Ubisoft Montreal developed the game, which was released in 2009 as the sequel to the original Assassin's Creed. Its narrative follows Ezio from his youth in Florence through his transformation into an Assassin after a conspiracy destroys much of his family.

The game visits several Italian locations, including Florence, Monteriggioni, Venice, and Forlì. It also introduces Leonardo da Vinci as an important ally who provides inventions and helps interpret pages from Altaïr's codex.

Assassin's Creed II is often confused with Brotherhood because both feature Ezio. Brotherhood continues his story in Rome, while Revelations follows his later life in Constantinople. Assassin's Creed II is the entry that establishes his origins and first major campaign.
