Which Assassin's Creed character stars in the games set in Renaissance Italy?

The story behind the answer

Ezio Auditore is the Assassin's Creed character who stars in the games set in Renaissance Italy.

Ezio is the protagonist of Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, and Assassin's Creed: Revelations. His story begins in Florence in the late fifteenth century, after a conspiracy destroys much of his family. He becomes an Assassin and spends years opposing Templar plans across Italy and beyond.

The Italian storyline visits cities and regions including Florence, Venice, Forlì, Tuscany, and Rome. Brotherhood focuses especially on Ezio's campaign in Rome and his effort to rebuild the Assassin Brotherhood there. Revelations later takes him to Constantinople, where he investigates Altaïr's legacy.

Ezio is sometimes described as the protagonist of only Assassin's Creed II, but his arc spans three major games. He also appears in short films and other media, making him one of the franchise's most extensively developed characters. He should not be confused with Altaïr, the earlier Crusade-era protagonist.
