Which Assassin's Creed character is the playable protagonist of Assassin's Creed II?

The story behind the answer

Ezio Auditore is the playable protagonist of Assassin's Creed II.

Ezio is introduced as a young Florentine nobleman in Renaissance Italy. After his family is betrayed and executed, he becomes involved in the Assassin Brotherhood and spends the game pursuing those responsible. His journey takes him through Florence, Monteriggioni, Venice, and other Italian locations.

Unlike the first game, which concentrates on Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad during the Crusades, Assassin's Creed II follows Ezio across several decades. The story explores his growth from an inexperienced young man into a skilled Assassin and influential Brotherhood leader.

Ezio also appears in the follow-up games Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and Assassin's Creed: Revelations. Together, these games are commonly called the “Ezio Trilogy.” The character's full name is Ezio Auditore da Firenze, and he became one of the franchise's most recognizable protagonists.
