Which Asian country hosted the first European Games in Baku in 2015?

The story behind the answer

Azerbaijan hosted the first European Games in Baku in 2015.

The inaugural European Games were held from 12 to 28 June 2015 in Baku, Azerbaijan’s capital. The multi-sport event brought together athletes from European national Olympic committees and included competitions such as athletics, boxing, swimming, gymnastics, judo and wrestling.

Baku’s Crystal Hall hosted several events, while the city’s Olympic Stadium served as the opening and closing ceremony venue. The games were created by the European Olympic Committees and were intended to provide a continental multi-sport competition comparable in concept, though not identical in structure, to other regional games.

Azerbaijan is located at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia on the Caspian Sea. The event is sometimes confused with the European Games’ later editions, but Baku remains the host city of the first edition.
