Which Asian country contains the Taj Mahal, the white-marble mausoleum in Agra?

The story behind the answer

India contains the Taj Mahal, the white-marble mausoleum in Agra.

The Mughal emperor Shah Jahan commissioned the monument in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died in 1631. Construction began around 1632 and the principal mausoleum was completed in 1648, with additional buildings finished later.

The complex stands beside the Yamuna River in the Indian city of Agra. It includes the main tomb, a mosque, a guesthouse, gardens, reflecting pools and a monumental entrance gate.

The Taj Mahal is often described as a palace, but its central building is a mausoleum. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 and is especially known for its changing appearance under different daylight conditions.
