Björk’s 1993 music video for “Human Behaviour” was directed by Michel Gondry. The video places Björk in a stylized woodland populated by a bear, hunters, and other surreal storybook elements.
Gondry used practical effects, miniature sets, forced perspective, and theatrical staging to create a world that feels both handmade and dreamlike. The collaboration began a long-running creative partnership between Björk and Gondry, who later directed several more of her videos.
“Human Behaviour” was Björk’s first solo single after her work with the Icelandic alternative band The Sugarcubes. It became a defining introduction to the visual and musical world of her album Debut.
The video is often confused with Björk’s later work directed by Chris Cunningham or Spike Jonze. Gondry directed “Human Behaviour,” while Cunningham directed “All Is Full of Love” and Jonze directed “It’s Oh So Quiet.”
