Which artist’s 1917 gallery exhibition featured Georgia O'Keeffe's first solo show?
Answer
Alfred Stieglitz
Answer
Alfred Stieglitz
Alfred Stieglitz presented Georgia O'Keeffe's first solo exhibition in 1917.
The exhibition took place at Stieglitz’s gallery, the Little Galleries of the Photo-Secession, commonly called 291, in New York. It included works O'Keeffe made while teaching in Texas and introduced her boldly simplified charcoal abstractions to a wider audience.
This event was not the same as her first group appearance, which Stieglitz had arranged the previous year. O'Keeffe had sent him drawings through Anita Pollitzer, and Stieglitz quickly became her strongest early advocate. His support helped establish her New York reputation, although she later became famous for paintings of flowers, bones, and Southwestern landscapes.
