Which artist photographed and promoted Georgia O'Keeffe early in her career?

The story behind the answer

Alfred Stieglitz photographed and promoted Georgia O'Keeffe early in her career. He exhibited her abstract charcoal drawings at his New York gallery, 291, in 1916.

Stieglitz was a major American photographer, publisher, and gallery owner who helped introduce European modernism to the United States. His gallery became an influential meeting place for artists and photographers.

O'Keeffe and Stieglitz began a long personal and professional relationship. He photographed her extensively, and those portraits became an important part of the public image surrounding her artistic career. They married in 1924.

The relationship did not mean that Stieglitz created O'Keeffe's artistic style. She developed her own visual language and later established a life and practice increasingly connected with New Mexico. Stieglitz continued exhibiting her work while also pursuing his own photography.
