Federico’s broken nose is a notable realistic feature, probably the result of a tournament injury. Battista’s portrait may have been completed or presented after her death, which helps explain the commemorative character of the diptych. The painting is now in Florence’s Uffizi Gallery and is distinct from Piero’s later Madonna and Child with Federico.
