Which artist has the most wins in the AMA Artist of the Year category?

Taylor Swift has the most wins in the American Music Awards’ Artist of the Year category.

Swift has won the category seven times: in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022. Her first victory came early in her transition from country star to crossover pop phenomenon, while her later wins reflected sustained success across albums including Reputation, Lover, Folklore, Evermore, and Midnights.

The Artist of the Year award has been presented since 1996 and is generally regarded as the AMAs’ leading competitive honor. Swift is both the category’s most successful winner and its most nominated artist. She was also the only act to win Artist of the Year three years in a row, taking the prize in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

BTS won in 2021, interrupting Swift’s run, but Swift reclaimed the award in 2022. Justin Bieber has won twice, while Michael Jackson is better known for his overall AMA legacy and record eight-award haul at the 1984 ceremony—not for leading this particular category.
