Which artist founded the gallery 291 that first exhibited Georgia O'Keeffe’s work?

The story behind the answer

Alfred Stieglitz founded the gallery 291 that first exhibited Georgia O'Keeffe’s work.

Stieglitz operated the New York gallery known as 291, named for its address at 291 Fifth Avenue. In 1916, he exhibited drawings by O'Keeffe after receiving them from her friend and fellow artist Anita Pollitzer. The show introduced O'Keeffe to an influential circle of American modernists.

Stieglitz was primarily known as a pioneering photographer, but he also played a major role in promoting modern art in the United States. He and O'Keeffe later married. The gallery 291 closed in 1917, but Stieglitz continued presenting O'Keeffe’s work at later galleries.
