Which artist and photographer became Georgia O’Keeffe’s husband?

The story behind the answer

Alfred Stieglitz became Georgia O’Keeffe’s husband.

Stieglitz was an American photographer, publisher, and gallery owner who played a major role in introducing modern European and American art to the United States. He first encountered O’Keeffe’s abstract charcoal drawings in 1915 and exhibited them at his New York gallery.

The two developed a close personal and professional relationship. Stieglitz made hundreds of photographs of O’Keeffe, while his gallery helped bring her work to the attention of critics and collectors. They married in 1924 and remained together until his death in 1946.

Stieglitz is sometimes identified only as a photographer, but his influence also came from his galleries and publications. His gallery 291 was named for its address at 291 Fifth Avenue in New York.
