Answer
American modernism
Answer
American modernism
Georgia O'Keeffe is primarily associated with American modernism.
Her paintings helped establish a distinctly American form of modern art during the early and middle twentieth century. She worked with abstraction, simplified natural forms, enlarged flowers, skyscrapers, landscapes, and animal bones rather than following a single fixed style.
O'Keeffe’s early abstract drawings attracted Alfred Stieglitz’s attention in the 1910s. Her work later became closely associated with New York modernism, even as her subjects increasingly reflected New Mexico and the American Southwest.
She is sometimes labeled a Surrealist because of the dreamlike scale or unusual juxtapositions in some paintings, but she was not primarily a Surrealist artist. Pop art developed later, and Impressionism belongs to an earlier movement centered on visible brushwork and changing light.
