Neil Armstrong
Answer
Neil Armstrong
Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on the Moon during Apollo 11 in 1969.
Apollo 11 launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on July 16, 1969, carrying Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin. The mission’s lunar module, Eagle, landed in the Sea of Tranquility on July 20.
Armstrong climbed down the lunar module’s ladder first and stepped onto the lunar surface on July 21, 1969, UTC. Aldrin followed about nineteen minutes later, while Collins remained in lunar orbit aboard the command module Columbia.
The astronauts spent more than two hours exploring the surface, taking photographs, collecting lunar material, and deploying scientific equipment. Apollo 11 returned safely to Earth on July 24. Armstrong’s first step made him the first human to walk on another world.
