Which announced 2026 headliner is the Chicago rock band led by Billy Corgan?
Answer
The Smashing Pumpkins
The announced 2026 headliner that is the Chicago rock band led by Billy Corgan is The Smashing Pumpkins.
The Smashing Pumpkins formed in Chicago in 1988, with singer, guitarist, and primary songwriter Billy Corgan at the center of the group. Their music blends alternative rock with heavy guitar textures, psychedelic elements, orchestral touches, and sharply contrasting dynamics.
The band broke through internationally with Siamese Dream in 1993, then reached an even wider audience with Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness in 1995. The latter produced major songs including “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” “1979,” and “Tonight, Tonight,” and became one of the defining alternative-rock albums of the decade.
The group’s lineup has changed repeatedly, so Billy Corgan is the most reliable identifying clue rather than a fixed membership list. The Smashing Pumpkins are also associated with Chicago’s alternative-music history, making them a particularly fitting headliner for the city-based festival.
