Which anniversary name means 250 years and gives America250 its historical classification?

Semiquincentennial is the anniversary name that means 250 years and gives America250 its historical classification.

The term describes half of a quincentennial, or half of 500 years. It is the established label for the United States’ 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026.

The more familiar terms are based on different numbers. Centennial means 100 years, bicentennial means 200 years, and millennium means 1,000 years. “Quarter millennium” is another understandable description, but semiquincentennial is the formal term most closely associated with the celebration.

America250 uses a shorter brand name because semiquincentennial is unusual and difficult to pronounce. The formal word remains useful in historical writing, reference works, and descriptions of the national anniversary.
