Answer
Pinball Number Count
Answer
Pinball Number Count
Pinball Number Count is the animated Sesame Street counting segment featuring vocals by the Pointer Sisters.
The sequence follows a pinball as it travels through colorful, fantastical machines while children hear numbers counted in rhythm. Rather than being one conventional cartoon story, it is a collection of short number-centered animations linked by shared opening and closing sequences.
The segments were originally produced in 1976 by Imagination, Inc., in San Francisco, for the Children’s Television Workshop. They debuted on Sesame Street during Season 8 in 1977 and became memorable for combining early computer-free animation, psychedelic pop-art visuals, funk, jazz, and the Pointer Sisters’ vocals.
The title can be slightly misleading: the series teaches counting to 12, but it contains 11 numbered segments because there is no segment for number 1. The music was composed by Walt Kraemer and arranged by Ed Bogas, with instrumental contributions from Bay Area jazz musicians. Its elaborate rhythms and changing time signatures helped make a preschool counting exercise unexpectedly distinctive.
