Aslan is a lion in C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia.
Aslan is the great lion who appears throughout the Narnia series and serves as its creator, king, judge, and protector. His name comes from the Turkish word for “lion.” Lewis presents him as a majestic and authoritative figure whose presence changes the direction of Narnian history.
Aslan’s role is especially prominent in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. There, he offers himself in place of Edmund Pevensie at the Stone Table and later returns to life. The episode uses Christian imagery, including sacrifice, death, and resurrection, while remaining part of the novel’s fantasy narrative.
Aslan is not simply an ordinary talking animal. He occupies a unique position above Narnia’s other creatures and is connected with the creation of the world in The Magician’s Nephew. The character has therefore become one of Lewis’s best-known literary creations.
