Which Android release targeted improvements for foldables, tablets, Chromebooks, and large screens?

The story behind the answer

Android 12L targeted improvements for foldables, tablets, Chromebooks, and large screens.

Google announced Android 12L in October 2021 as an interim Android 12 release focused on devices with more display area. Its interface changes included layouts better suited to two-column views, a taskbar, and improved split-screen behavior.

The “L” was commonly understood as referring to large screens. Android 12L was also called Android 12.1 on Pixel smartphones, so it is sometimes confused with a completely separate major Android generation. It remained part of the Android 12 family rather than being Android 13.

The stable release arrived in 2022. Its emphasis was form-factor adaptation: making Android apps and system controls more usable on tablets, foldables, desktop-sized displays, and ChromeOS devices.
