Before phones, Android was originally intended to power what kind of devices?

The story behind the answer

Before phones, Android was originally intended to power what kind of devices? Before phones, Android was originally intended to power digital cameras.

Android Inc. began in 2003 with an idea for an operating system that could make digital cameras smarter. Andy Rubin and Chris White developed the early concept, sometimes associated with the internal name FotoFrame, and presented the camera-focused plan to potential investors in 2004.

The company soon recognized that the digital-camera market was too limited for its ambitions. By 2004, Android Inc. had redirected its efforts toward smartphones, aiming to compete with platforms such as Symbian and Microsoft Windows Mobile. That change put Android on the path to becoming a general mobile operating system rather than a camera-specific product.

The camera origin is often overlooked because Android first became publicly famous on phones. Google acquired Android Inc. in 2005, and the team later developed the Linux-based platform that debuted commercially on the HTC Dream, also known as the T-Mobile G1, in 2008.
