Which ancient wonder was located in Alexandria, Egypt?

The story behind the answer

The Lighthouse of Alexandria was the ancient wonder located in Alexandria, Egypt.

Also called the Pharos of Alexandria, it stood on the island of Pharos beside the city's harbour. Construction probably began during the reign of Ptolemy I and was completed under Ptolemy II in the early third century BCE. Ancient writers considered it one of the tallest structures in the world.

The lighthouse guided ships toward Alexandria, a major centre of trade and scholarship in the Hellenistic Mediterranean. Its design is traditionally described as having three main levels: a square lower section, an octagonal middle section and a cylindrical upper section with a fire or light mechanism.

Earthquakes damaged the structure repeatedly between the 10th and 14th centuries, and it eventually collapsed. Stones from the ruins were incorporated into the nearby Citadel of Qaitbay in the 15th century. The Colossus of Rhodes and the Temple of Artemis were also ancient wonders, but they stood in different places and served different purposes.
